We can't use the same tools while we journey the underworld as we do when we are walking in the middle world. 
You can't just surround yourself in light. 
There isn't the same access to the light in the Underworld.
The underworld is meant to be journeyed, walked, moved through, not bypassed, suppressed or denied. Eventually it will pull you under, demanding you complete your journey and reclaim your hidden, buried, forgotten Truth, Power and Magick. 
Journeying through the Underworld requires you to come into a deeper relationship with pain, despair, darkness, aloneness, restriction, contraction, lack, stillness so that you can fully embody and know your own magnificence. So you can know the fullness of love. 
So if you are finding it hard to access the light, maybe its time to journey more deeply with the underworld!
